Tiger’s Eye This 4 ½ Star rated course by Golf Digest is very “Pinehurst” like.  Penn G2 bent grass and coquina rock boulders.   This course sponsors 3 tees, the Championship tees measures 7,010  yards, 6,628 yards from the blue tees,  6,115 from the white tees, 5,328 from the gold tees and 4,460 yards from the red tees and the course is a par 72.  The course is built to all USGA specifications.  The Grand Clubhouse hosts a great grill and club bar. Homes and sites are tucked in the forest adjacent to these Bermuda Fairways at Ocean Ridge Plantation. And if you are afraid of hitting homes, you will love Tiger’s Eye as there are virtually no homes along the course!

Leopard’s Chase This course covers over 200 acres, and features 5 sets of tees that will challenge you on this 7,155 yards of play on the mature Bermuda grass.   Water features highlight the course including the 5th hole that offers you and island green, surrounded by 90 yard stretch of sand along the water feature.  The 18th hole offers an elevated green that has an amazing waterfalls over the coquina boulders.  A “Must Play” by Golf Digest magazine.  However, this course is not for beginners as it is a shot makers course, so be sure to bring a few extra sleeves of golf balls!

Panther’s Run Regional award-winning designer, Tim Cate created this master piece.  The course offers a challenge with the numerous water features.  Golfers at all levels will enjoy this course and its benefits, such as having 2 sets of woman’s tees.  Panther’s Run measures 7,086 yards and is a par 72 course.  This wonderfully designed course offers homes and homesites for you to choose to make Ocean Ridge Plantation your final destination in the Carolina’s.  Panther’s Run is probably the most day to day playable course for golfers of all levels.

Lion’s Paw Another masterpiece aware-winning course that was designed with the influences of Tim Cate.  Lion’s Paw  offers one of the grandest Clubhouses and pro shops of all clubs at the “Big Cats, which is shared by the Panther’s Run course.” Water is to be factored in on 15 of the holes on this 7,003 yard course.  Wooded cart paths stretch into the maritime forest and are speckled with lovely 4-sided architecturally influenced homes.  And while this is the original course of the Big Cats, this tract can provide plenty of challenges as the trees are maturing and making some of the holes rather tight.

Jaguar’s Lair hopes to someday be the newest planned course by Tim Cate.  This will be an 18-hole course with a grand clubhouse that will take all the awards when completed.  There will be a mix of all the “Big Cats” influences on the design and play.  Less wooded, Cate has grand ideas to incorporate local landscaping with many water features.  Currently this course has stopped all work on it and the future of it is cloudy at best.

GOLFERS PARADISE, IN YOUR BACKYARD—GOLF COURSE COMMUNITY LIVING

CALABASH, N.C. - As you drive North on U.S. Highway 17 from North Myrtle Beach and over the state line, tourist traps and miniature golf courses give way to Mom-and-Pop seafood restaurants, quaint beach cottages, and rustic roadside gift shops. Anchoring the coast of this pristine region are the Brunswick Islands - a group of barrier islands that run from the world famous "seafood capital" of Calabash, North Carolina, all the way north to the Cape Fear River south of Wilmington. The scenery is unrivaled, as Carolina Oaks and Pines blend together to give the area a true mid-Atlantic feel.

This is Brunswick County, one of the undiscovered gems of the Grand Strand and truly North Carolina's "Golf Coast." This bucolic setting is home to nearly a third of the Strand's golf courses, ranging from bargain level public access tracks and mid-range surprises to high-end daily fee and semi private layouts. With marshland layouts such as Marsh Harbor and Oyster Bay, Brunswick County lays claim to some of the most scenic courses in the entire state.

A slew of new high-end, daily fee courses such as Arnold Palmer's River Edge, Tim Cate's Tiger's Eye and The Thistle, Rick Robbins' Crow Creek, and Willard Byrd's Farmstead have opened their doors over the past three years. Now, with over 30 golf courses, Brunswick County has clearly established itself as one of the east coast's premier golfing destinations.

With affordable family owned and operated facilities like the Calabash Golf Links, The Meadowlands Golf Club, and Brunswick Plantation, Brunswick County can cater to the budget-minded golfer as easily as it can the affluent. There truly is something for every level of golfer, economic and skill, in Brunswick County.

Yet somehow, the numerous golf courses of the area have eluded hordes of golfers from the Midwest and Northeast over the years. Is it because of the county's remote location and rural infrastructure and position just outside of the shadow of Myrtle Beach? Or is it simply because the locals have remained tight-lipped about their little jewel so as not to spoil its shine? It's hard to say. But one thing is for sure: Brunswick County has not been overlooked because of the product being offered.

So if you seek a golf trip that revolves around thirty-six holes a day, a beer and a bed, then Brunswick County is the prescription for what ails you. Unlike its commercialized cousin to the south, this area once described by early settlers as "some trees and some marshlands" is more likely to overwhelm you with wildlife than nightlife. Between the seafood restaurants, the unspoiled beaches, the offshore fishing and a handful of eclectic shops and restaurants, Brunswick County offers golfers and nongolfers a myriad of other recreational opportunities.
