The Town is also known for its ample public access to the waters surrounding it and the beautiful live oak trees that are its namesake. The town covers much of the island itself, and also includes areas on the mainland around both bridges, such as the golf course community of South Harbour Village. Oak Island real estate is affordable and plentiful here. There are also thousands of undeveloped acres near the Swain's Cut Bridge.
